SPECIES/GROUP : Synthetic corundum
CLASSIFICATION : Synthetic stone
From the Latin word ‘ruber,’ meaning red.
Synthetic ruby is the red variety of the mineral species, corundum. The red colour is the result of traces of chromium. All other colours of corundum are referred to as synthetic sapphires.
Rated 9 on the Mohs scale of hardness, synthetic ruby is harder than all other stones except the diamond. This, combined with excellent toughness, makes it very durable and ideal for all types and styles of jewellery.
When wearing synthetic ruby, avoid rough handling. When not wearing your jewellery, it's best to store separately to avoid scratches. For additional care information, please visit our care guide.
